Dylan Proud becomes first new signing for 2027 season

Outside back Dylan Proud has been unveiled as Rochdale Hornets’ first new signing ahead of the 2027 season.

The former Leeds Rhinos youngster has penned a one-year deal with the club.

Representing rugby union side Bradford Salem in his junior days, Proud went on to play the 13-man code for the first time whilst at school. 

The 22-year-old subsequently moved to community club Siddal before being picked up by Leeds at Under 16s level. 

Proud featured for the Rhinos at scholarship, academy and reserve grade level, but departed Headingley without making a senior appearance.

His move to the Crown Oil Arena comes off the back of a season which saw him score five tries in 15 appearances for Keighley Cougars in the Betfred Championship. 

“I’m very happy to get the deal with Rochdale sorted,” Proud said. 

“Once I had spoken to Gary Thornton, it was a no-brainer for me as it just felt right. I can’t wait to get started and be in and amongst it. 

“I’m looking to put my best foot forward and play to the best of my ability when given the opportunity.” 

Rochdale Hornets chairman Andy Mazey said: “Dylan was a very targeted piece of recruitment that we moved early on, as we knew Tommy Ashton would be retiring and Dan Nixon was moving on. 

“We wanted to bring in quality, not only to replace the departing players, but to improve us going into 2027.

“Dylan who is equally at home in the centres or as a winger, and is a very strong ball-carrier and aggressive defender who's come through a fantastic Leeds system and still has his best years ahead of him.

“Dylan's signing is a real coup for Rochdale Hornets, and he's a player Gary and I were really keen to add to our group. 

“I'm therefore absolutely delighted we got this one over the line so early, and are now in a position to announce to our supporters."
