Jo Tyson re-signs for Hornets Women for 2026

Rochdale Hornets Women have announced the re-signing of outside back Jo Tyson for the 2026 season.

The experienced outside back re-signs for the club after a successful debut season during our promotion year.

“I’m excited to share that I’ll be returning this season after breaking my leg during a game last year," she said.

"Coming back into the sport last season after a long absence reminded me just how much I love the game. As the last season progressed, I felt my technical skills and knowledge of the game really grow, which noticeably improved my overall gameplay.

"That has given me even more drive to return stronger this year. I also want to recognise the incredible achievements of the team last season. Gaining promotion to League One was a massive milestone and a true testament to everyone’s hard work, resilience and commitment, on and off the pitch.

"I’m unbelievably proud of the squad and honoured to be part of a team that continues to raise the bar. I want to express thanks to Ben Bird and Rob Rigby for their coaching support throughout my recovery, and to Matt, our general manager, for always checking in and keeping me connected to the team while I’ve been off the pitch.

"Thanks to my team-mates for the messages, motivation and constant support. You’ve been a huge part of keeping my spirits high, and I can’t wait to run out alongside you all again.

"I’m also really looking forward to welcoming the new players joining us this season. It’s an exciting time for the squad, and I’m eager to be part of building momentum together as we take on a new league.

"Before making my full return, I’m focused on rebuilding my strength, stamina and confidence off the pitch so that when I pull that Hornets shirt back on, I’m ready to give absolutely everything. Here’s to a strong season ahead - I can’t wait to get back out there.”

Rochdale Hornets Women head coach Ben Bird said: “Jo is that player in the squad that will do anything the team needs. Last year she played as a winger, centre and second-rower, and plays the same brave fully committed game wherever she's asked.

"Jo is like a bullet from a gun, with very little self-preservation. She's as strong as anyone on the team, and entirely committed to her own development. Sadly Jo sustained a serious lower leg injury last year that kept her out of the back end of the season.

"Almost immediately, however, she was on her path to recovery, and now she's nearing being back on the pitch stronger than before. Seeing Jo back in the mix is a huge boost for everyone, and I'm looking forward to seeing her back in Hornets colours in 2026.”
