Ex-NRL front-rower joins Hornets

Rochdale Hornets have completed the signing of prop forward Mark Ioane on a deal running until the end of the 2026 season.

A vastly experienced front-rower, Ioane brings a wealth of NRL and Betfred Super League experience to the club.

Born in Auckland, Ioane has played NRL first grade rugby for both the Gold Coast Titans and St George Illawarra Dragons.

He went on to play in Super League for London Broncos and Leigh, before joining Keighley ahead of the 2023 campaign.

The 35-year-old featured 66 times for the Cougars in all competitions, scoring 17 tries during that time.

A move to North Wales Crusaders followed for Ioane ahead of the 2026 season.

Boasting real pedigree from his time both in the UK and Down Under, Ioane's arrival is a welcome one for the remainder of the campaign.

He goes straight into contention to feature against former club Keighley this Sunday.

“I’m looking forward to bringing my experience into a team already loaded with exciting and talented players across the board, ambitious coaching staff and passionate fans,” Ioane said.

“They’re all part of the reasons why I’m here, and I’m ready to put my best foot forward in a Rochdale Hornets shirt.”

Rochdale Hornets chairman Andy Mazey said: "With the loss of Jordan Andrade to suspension for the next two games, it was perfect timing to bring in a middle of Mark's quality and experience as we continue to develop the squad.

“He is a big and powerful middle with bags of NRL, Super League and Championship experience, and will bring even more punch to our pack.

“The way Gary Thornton likes to play will really suit Mark, and we are delighted to welcome him and his family to the Hornets.”
